Peru's Top Luxury Lodges
A list of boutique luxury eco-lodes in Peru that fit the "Lily's Lodges" criteria of offering cultural connection, comfort, camaraderie and world class cuisine. This list has no allegiance to ownership, partnerships, perks, or commission. It's solely about making sure you don't miss out on the best property for your specific interests because you didn't know it existed!
This is meant to be an evolving resource, not an elitist list deciding which properties are great and which aren't. I'd love nothing more than to review your suggestions of lodges I am missing! There are so many deeply hidden gems within this category of property, which is what's so beautiful about it, and why I felt this platform was needed. Please submit suggestions on the contact page or to [email protected] and I promise I will vet them all.
I'd love to help you book your trip to Peru, I spent three weeks there in November '21 and can help you come up with the perfect breakdown to balance the many different regions Peru has to offer! Start by submitting a trip intake form here.
Sacred Valley
Inkaterra Hacienda Urumbamba
Gorgeous standalone suites and ability to opt-in to activities day to day such as my favorite: twilight hike complete with personal lanterns.
Explora Valle Sagrado
"Explora offers an in-depth exploration experience from a base Lodge immersed in the history of the Incas."
Sol y Luna
"Authentically reflects the rich Andean culture and allows us to share the beauty of the Sacred Valley with our guests while generating the income to support the Sol y Luna Intercultural School."
Rio Sagrado, Belmond
"Reconnect with what matters most at Rio Sagrado, a unique hideaway in the Sacred Valley. Perhaps the most serene luxury hotel in Peru."
Machu Picchu
Sanctuary Lodge, A Belmond Hotel
Belmond was in negotiations with the Peruvian government and had this property slated to close in May 2025. Operations have been extended to the end of the year, but unknown from there. This is the most iconic MP experience with an unbeatable location directly next to Machu Picchu; the only accommodation that does not require the windy bus ride up the mountain to access the park. The price point matches the Belmond name, but the ability to gain early access to MP without the crowds is priceless.
Sumaq Machu Picchu Hotel
A relatively newer property on the list, Sumaq is the most modern (opened '07, renovated '16) On the larger end with 64 rooms, this will be the most traditional luxury hotel experience in Aguas Calientes - more hotel than lodge like the other three on the list. Service receives excellent marks and on-site restaurants make it easy if you choose not to venture into town.
Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo
Located in the town at the foot of Machu Picchu (Aguas Calientes) this moody lodge consists of buildings hidden throughout 12km of lush rainforest. (We went for dinner and I'm not quite sure where the 83 casitas were hiding!) Facilities are a bit dated.
El Albergue Ollantaytambo
Located at the entrance to the train to Machu Picchu or the Inka Trail trek, it's a perfect base before your early morning train in. The lodge consists of many quaint buildings among lush greenery, and the not-to-be-missed gem of the show is the Pachamanca organic farm lunch experience. I list this last since it's a train away from Machu Picchu, but it might be my favorite, and the price point is unbeatable. I recommend adding at least one night here even if you're also staying in Aguas Calientes.
Everywhere Else
Titilaka, Lake Titicaca
The epitome of a Lily's Lodges experience. Firepit sundowners, backgammon in the communal fireside lounge, and the most incredible day trips onto the lake, complete with cushy private boats, and a lodge-away-from-lodge setup for the day-trip meal, where you connect with fellow guests, local people and cuisine. Relax at the lodge with provided art supplies, lounge chairs, and cozy rooms where local gifts are left on your pillow nightly.
Belmond Andean Explorer
"Fresh, bold and wild, Andean Explorer is the first luxury sleeper train in South America. Breathe in crisp evening air from the train’s open deck with the majestic La Raya mountain range rising into view. Connect with fellow guests in the lounge car and sip a pisco sour to the tune of sweet piano melodies. Retreat to the spa car for a reviving Andean ritual and soothing massage. Then retire to your en-suite cabin for a restful night's sleep—tomorrow brings new adventures."
Las Casitas, Colca Canyon
A Belmond property with 20 standalone casitas. "Blending effortlessly with the awe-inspiring natural environment, a stay here feels a world away from the stresses of everyday life. Set off on stunning canyon treks, ride Peruvian Paso horses, keep an eye on the skies in search of the Andean condor. Or make the most of your downtime, unwinding beside the pool, recharging in the spa, or simply delving into a good book. Timeless memories are guaranteed."
Cirqa, Arequipa
"Located in the historic centre of Arequipa, this former monastery dates back to the year 1540 when the city was founded. Reviving the soul of a forgone Parador & inspired by the dedicated way monks would receive travellers, CIRQA pays homage to its heritage by carrying on warm Arequipenean traditions. In appreciation for its history, today the Parador combines its original sillar stone architecture with contemporary nuances to welcome guests."
Amazon
Aqua Nera Cruise
"Endless discoveries in the most biodiverse rainforest and river system on Earth. The 20-suite vessel boasts exquisite design by. From the spacious suites to the wealth of social spaces, Aqua Nera’s interiors exude refined elegance, marrying contemporary design with local heritage."
Delfin Cruises
"Breathtaking sceneries, luxuriant forests, natural life at its finest, and the endless expanses of the river come together with our first-rate service to create a magical environment, an experience never to forget. The first Relais & Châteaux Cruise in the world."

Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica
"An eco-luxury lodge with 35 wooden cabanas inspired in the Ese’Eja culture. 540 bird species have been inventoried in hotel grounds, deep in the rainforest. Excursions include a visit to the Inkaterra Canopy Walkway, a bridge system at 30 meters above the ground."
Posada Amazonas
"This jungle ecolodge with 30 rooms is ideal for families with small children, cultural travelers, adventurers at heart, and nature lovers. Your visit makes a direct impact on the Native Community of Infierno. Climb a canopy tower 42 meters high, visit the calm waters of Lake Tres Chimbadas and the ethnobotanical Ñape center where the community will share with you their traditions."
Why book via Lily's Lodges?
This website is primarily a library for unique luxury properties, but I am also a travel advisor! If you are interested in booking one of the above properties (or anywhere in the world) please reach out and I'd love to outline the perks I can add on to the same rate you see online. Often breakfast for two, a resort credit, or massage, as well as potential upgrades and early/late check in/out. You can also set up a call with me if you'd like feedback on your overall itinerary, or how long to spend at different destinations.
If I've not visited a property, you'll see the lodge descriptions in quotation marks, meaning I used a description and photo from their website. If there are no quotation marks, the description and photo are my own.
There is one other luxury hotel in the Sacred Valley: Marriott's Tambo del Inka. You'll often see it on the same lists as the four properties above. To me the other four embodied the four categories I look for in a lodge, but wanted to make a note that for you, Tambo del Inka may be a great resource if you have a stash of Marriott points, or are interested in a spa-focused trip, as Kallpa Spa is the valley's largest.
